The third issue in the series “Our Solar System” is dedicated to Venus. The coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and features a colored representation of the planet Venus. The moon and the radiant sun are indicated in the background. Also included are the inscriptions “CANADA” and “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR”. The reverse of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination “5 DOLLARS”. With a diameter of approx. 12,100 km, Venus is the third smallest planet in our solar system. Besides the moon the Venus is considered the brightest star in the night sky. Because the Venus is only visible in the morning and evening sky, the planet is also called the morning and evening star. Due to its earth-like size and surface structure, Venus is one of the terrestrial planets.
