The third issue of the On the Trails of Wildlife series reissued in 2021 is dedicated to the Bison. The motive shows a detailed image of a beautiful adult specimen in a typical American steppe landscape. The reverse presents the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination “5 DOLLARS”. Bisons reach a head-torso length of 3.80 m and a weight of up to 900 kg. For Native Americans, the bison represented an important source of livelihood. Before the bison was nearly exterminated, several millions of the magnificent animals populated the North American prairies. With the help of strict protection measures, the population could fortunately be preserved – today, most bison herds live protected in the national parks of North America. The Maple Leaf Bison silver coin in color is delivered in a protective capsule including an illustrated product card.
