The seventh issue of the On the Trails of Wildlife series, reissued in 2021, is dedicated to the Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis). The colored motive shows a fully grown bighorn sheep standing on a rock. In the background a mountain range with snow-capped peaks is visible. The reverse presents the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination “5 DOLLARS”. Bighorn sheep are found in Canada, parts of the U.S. and northern Mexico and live in dry mountainous regions above the tree line. The rams are clearly recognizable by their distinctive horns. Females also have horns, but in comparison they are much smaller. The bighorn sheep is a herd animal and feeds on any grass, herbs, foliage, lichen and fruit. The On the Trails of Wildlife – Bighorn Sheep Maple Leaf coin in color is delivered in a protective capsule including an illustrated product card.
