2021 Silver Coin Celebrates The Centennial Of The First Peace Dollar
The Peace Silver Dollar is one of America’s most popular vintage coins and the last silver dollar series struck for circulation entirely in silver. The short-lived series was struck from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 & 1935. In honor of 2021 being the 100th anniversary of the first Peace Silver Dollar, the United States Mint has resurrected the design and, using its modern technology, has released a new Peace Silver Dollar that’s bigger and bolder than ever!
The Same Iconic Design Struck in 99.9% Silver
Featuring the same designs created by Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar differs from its vintage ancestors only in that instead of being struck in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver, it has been minted in .858 troy ounces of highly pure 99.9% silver. The rest is all still there — the same profile of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays modeled after the design of the Statue of Liberty. The model for Lady Liberty was 23-year-old Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, the young sculptor’s wife. The familiar reverse returns as well showing an eagle at rest holding an olive branch above the inscription “PEACE.”
Fabulous Brilliant Uncirculated Condition
Each coin available here was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and, just like the vintage Peace Dollars struck there more than a century ago, has no mint mark. These coins all come in original Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition with razor sharp details that are as fresh and crisp as the day they left the mint. Each will come beautifully housed in its official mint packaging that consists of an elegant black box slipped inside an outer sleeve adorned with an image of the coin’s obverse and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
