The 2024 issue of the Australian Lunar Series III of the Perth Mint is dedicated to the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. Struck from a 1/10 ounce of 99.99% pure gold, the fifth issue of the 12-year Lunar III Series features a detailed depiction of the majestic mythical creature in color, as well as stylized waves and mist. The design also includes the Chinese character for “Dragon”, the inscription “DRAGON 2024” and the mintmark “P125” signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, the denomination and fineness. The mintage is limited to only 20,000 pieces worldwide.
The Dragon is attributed with qualities such as reliability, self-confidence, courage and a strong willpower. Those born under the sign of the Dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, and every 12th year before are considered energetic, enthusiastic, and intelligent.
