- In honour of Black History Month, the Royal Canadian Mint has proudly designed a 99.99% pure silver tribute to a Canadian civil rights pioneer, Viola Desmond (1914-1965). Each commemorative coin is accompanied by a new, $10 Viola Desmond banknote recently issued by the Bank of Canada.
- Includes her signature. The coin’s reverse features Viola Desmond’s signature. The accompanying certificate of authenticity features her full signature, as it appeared on a graduation diploma from the Desmond Studio of Beauty Culture.
- A special celebration. This coin launches just in time to commemorate Viola’s birthday (06 July 1914).
