The towering Tyrannosaurus Rex features on the first release in the exciting new Dinosaur Coin Collection struck in 1oz pure silver.
The reverse of the coin shows a coloured representation of a T-Rex battling two small raptors. The raptors and the prehistoric landscape background are skilfully engraved for contrast. The coin is antiqued for further effect. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is legal tender in Niue.
The coin is presented in a quality coin case containing the numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The themed outer box also displays an image of this mighty dinosaur amongst a background of rock.
With a worldwide limit of only 2,000 coins, this 1oz silver coin would make a great start, or addition, to any Dinosaur collection.
Coin Story
Tyrannosaurus Rex became extinct about 65 million years ago in the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction. It was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs that ever lived. Everything about this ferocious predator, from its thick, heavy skull to its 4-foot-long (1.2-meter-long) jaw, was designed for maximum bone-crushing action.
Fossil evidence shows that Tyrannosaurus was about 40 feet (12 meters) long and about 15 to 20 feet (4.6 to 6 meters) tall. Its strong thighs and long, powerful tail helped it move quickly. Its two-fingered forearms could probably seize prey, but they were actually too short to reach its mouth!
