The fourth issue of the Canada’s Wildlife series, reissued in 2021, is dedicated to the Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus). The motive depicts a detailed close-up of the head of an adult Snowy Owl in color. The reverse presents the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination “5 DOLLARS”. Snowy owls are native to the tundra regions of America (Alaska), Canada, Iceland, Scandinavia and Greenland. They belong to the genus of eagle owls – their snow-white colored plumage, which clearly distinguishes them from the eagle owl, is due to their adaptation to the arctic environment. The snowy owl can reach a considerable height of up to 70 cm and a weight of up to 3 kilos – the females are significantly larger and heavier than the males. Since the population numbers are continuously decreasing, the World Conservation Union IUCN has included the species in the “Red List of Threatened Species”. The Maple Leaf Snowy Owl silver coin in color is delivered in a protective capsule including an illustrated product card.
