Coin Story
Human history is filled with stories of legendary warrior people, who fought and conquered their enemies through the skilful use of weapons and their superior battle tactics.
The soldiers of the Roman army were well-equipped and highly trained, and operated in strict formation on the battlefield. Their basic equipment consisted of a Cassis (helmet), Lorica Segmentata (armour), Gladius (sword), Pilum (spear), Scutum (shield). They regularly practised hand-to-hand combat with equipment that was deliberately heavier than that used in battle.
The army, famed for its discipline, organisation, and innovation in both weapons and tactics, allowed Rome to build and defend a huge empire – which for centuries would dominate the Mediterranean world and beyond.
