Canada’s 2025 Peace Dollar Features Several Firsts
2025 marks the 5th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint’s Peace Dollar series. In honor of this first milestone anniversary, RCM has commissioned something historic: the FIRST design change in the series, completed by none other than the artist behind the original design—retired RCM Senior Engraver Susan Taylor. Rather than just showing Lady Peace’s head and face, Taylor based the new design on her original work from the 2019 Peace & Liberty Medal, but now “zoomed-out” to show Lady Peace striding alongside a Canadian shoreline. The image is rich in symbolism and enhanced by a dazzling proof finish. What’s more, this release will be the FIRST annual Canadian Peace Dollar issue featuring the effigy of King Charles III on the obverse. Instead of using the “standard” King Charles III effigy by Great Britain’s Royal Mint, Canada has continued its tradition of using Canadian-designed effigies. This brand-new effigy was designed by Steven Rosati, a Canadian award-winning portrait artist and member of the Portrait Society of Canada.
An Exquisite Combination Of Three Finishes
This legal-tender $1 coin was not only struck in one Troy ounce of highly pure 99.99% silver, but brilliantly combines three finishes! These brilliant coins were minted using a combination of three different finishing effects that are used to accentuate the detail and craft of Taylor’s incredible design. The sky and ocean are treated with polished surfaces. Lady Peace and the sand of the coastline are treated with high frost. And the clouds, sun, and the maple leaves upon which Lady Peace strides atop are treated with something near to a satin finish.
