About Mexican Gold Pesos
Each 50 Pesos Gold coin contains a little over 1 oz of Gold. Pesos are minted in Mexico City by the Mexican Mint (Banco de México). The Gold Peso contains 90% fine Gold and 10% Copper. The coins’ increased density is due to the inclusion of Copper in the minting procedure. With Copper, the coins have been able to endure circulation wear over their long lifetime.
About the Angel of Independence
The Angel of Independence (El Ángel) is officially known as Monumento a la Independencia (translated to English: Monument to Independence). On the major road Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, there is a victory column on a roundabout. The monument was erected in 1910 during Porfirio Díaz’s term by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mexico’s War of Independence.
