If you like Chinese mythology you will like the lucky cat. The display is nice. The cat is a bobble head and wobbles...cute.
Known as the ‘Maneki–neko’, the ‘lucky cat’ is believed to bring good luck and fortune to its owner. According to a 17th century legend, a stray cat taken in by a temple was believed to have saved a samurai lord and his men from being struck by lightning. The cat, Tama, raised its paw and beckoned the men towards it. Tama’s story spread across Japan and China, since then the cat has been honoured in figurines placed in temples, businesses and homes around the world.
The coin’s reverse depicts a golden lucky cat with both paws raised surrounded by representations of ancient Chinese coins and a gold ingot with an inscription of the Chinese character for ‘good fortune’. The design also includes the Chinese characters for ‘ushering in wealth and prosperity’, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Much more than a coin, this rectangular collectable is presented in a beautifully designed display case which houses an 11cm tall by 12.5cm wide lucky cat figurine sitting on a red cushion. The left arm of the cat figurine can be waved symbolising a welcoming gesture. To its left is the coin’s display casing on a bed of gold coins.
The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
