The exquisite artwork Dame mit Facher (Lady with a Fan) was a creation of Gustav Klimt, an Austrian symbolist painter. Similar to many of his other paintings, the intricate patterns, bold colours and suggestive imagery used in Klimt’s works continue to captivate audiences today.
Lady with a Fan features a young woman staring into the distance, with the decoration dress and backdrop featuring multiple oriental motifs. The artist’s characteristic echos his influence from the Arts and Crafts movement, where craftmanship, the beauty of everyday objects and ornamental designs are emphasised.
This was one of two unfinish paintings found at Klimt’s studio shortly after the artist passed away in 1918. Even though the painting lacks Klimt’s signature, many considered the portrait to be at the point of completion. While this painting is a less famous work of Klimt, it became the most valuable work of art ever sold at Europe for 85.3 million.
On a canvas of 165 x 125mm, a new minting technique called “Tri-Metal ” was applied to give this piece its remarkable weight while keeping its proportions true to the actual painting. This is made possible by combining 750g of Zinc as a center layer and 120g of copper as a base with a top layer of 2.5 oz of 999 fine Silver, resulting in a high relief. This is a limited edition of 399 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
