A beautiful coin - great addition to mu collection
Gustav Klimt gained fame thanks to a very decorative style; golden back- ground, elaborate ornaments and contrasted colors, the hallmark of his individual approach, were seen as the rebellion against the traditional art. Nonetheless, the academic circles of that time criticized his works of art as controversy. Today, the legacy of Gustav Klimt is still inspiring consecutive generations of artists.
The third element of the series – “The Kiss” – showcases an entwined couple situated at the edge of a patch of a flowery meadow. At first glance, the canvas is just a shimmering golden surface. Only aer a while we can figure out a woman’s face, her bare shoulder and tiny hand embracing her partner. The painting represents everything what Klimt valued in art: gold leaf, mosaic motif, beauty, eroticism and the genuine affection between two people. In 1908, the painting was acquired by the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere museum in the Belvedere palace in Vienna, where it is displayed to this very day.
