The first issue of the new 6 coin Series ‘Polar Lights’ is dedicated to the Jasper National Park in Canada. The park was founded in 1907 and covers an area of 10,878 km². It is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks and belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage since 1984. The motive depicts polar lights in spectacular shades of blue. The northern lights, scientifically called aurora borealis, are created in polar regions by the impact of energetic particles from the terrestrial magnetosphere on the atmosphere. The limited silver coin is delivered in a capsule including a product card.
