Inspired by ancient mythology, this collection showcases the powerful figure of Cybele, also known as the ‘Mother of the Gods.’ Unlike other goddesses whose origins lie in Rome or Greece, Cybele’s mythological roots can be traced back to Phrygia, a region in modern-day Turkey.
Cybele’s story is captivating. Born from a divine union between the Sky God and Earth Mother, she is revered as the mother of all life and gods. As her legend transcended Phrygia, the Greeks recognized similarities between Cybele and their own mother-goddess, Rhea, as well as the goddess of harvest, Demeter. This connection solidified Cybele’s status as a goddess of fertility and the untamed forces of nature, symbolized by her loyal companion, a majestic lion.
To capture the essence of each goddess in this series, we collaborated with the renowned coin and medal artist, Joel Iskowitz. In his artistry, he portrays Cybele in all her glory, riding her majestic chariot atop a throne adorned with intricately carved lions. These lions represent her dominion over the wildest elements of nature, as they pull her through the night sky.
