The second release of the new Pirates of the Caribbean™ Series is dedicated to the pirate ship The Flying Dutchman™ from the 2006 Disney™ hit Pirates of the Caribbean 2™. Struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold, the motive of the premium bullion coin features an image of the ship as well as a stylized depiction of the antagonist Davy Jones™. The inscriptions “THE FLYING DUTCHMAN”, “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN”, “1 oz 9999 Fine Gold” as well as the Disney™ logo and copyright are also included in the design. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions “250 DOLLARS,” “ELIZABETH II,” “2021” and “NIUE.” The Flying Dutchman™ is the main venue for the action in Pirates of the Caribbean 2™. The ship features an unusual design reminiscent of a fan fish. The Flying Dutchman™ was used by its captain Davy Jones™ for diving and is therefore covered with all kinds of seaweed and shells. As a result of a curse Davy Jones™ brought upon himself and the Flying Dutchman™, the crew is doomed to become more and more a part of the ship, eventually becoming completely fused with it. The successful sequel to the first part of the film series is about Jack Sparrow™ being in debt to and pursued by Davy Jones™. The only way Sparrow can destroy the cursed captain is to get the key to the “Dead Man’s Chest”, which contains Davy Jones’ heart – an undertaking marked by numerous obstacles and dangers.
