Every five years, a different animal of the popular “Big Five III.” is introduced in the new bullion series. The Elephant made the beginning in 2022 and will be issued in the following five years with the same motive and changing year number. Thus, the elephant also adorns the motive of the 2024 bullion coin. After completion of the five-year elephant series, the lion, the rhinoceros, the leopard and finally the buffalo also follow in a 5-year rhythm.

The motifs of the series once again include the impressive wildlife of South Africa. The animals known as the “Big Five” – elephant – lion – buffalo – rhinoceros – leopard – are regarded as emblems and ambassadors of this culturally rich country and represent the African fauna. The motif of the coin, made from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, shows a full-body depiction of a full-grown elephant. The inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA”, “BIG FIVE 2024” and the South African coat of arms are also part of the design. The reverse shows two halves of an elephant’s head. If you place two of these coins next to each other, you get a complete close-up portrait of an elephant.
