Coin Story
Doctor Who is currently the longest running and most successful science fiction television series of all time. Produced in Great Britain by the BBC, the programme depicts the adventures of a time travelling, humanoid alien known as the Doctor. Along with a succession of companions, the Doctor faces a variety of foes while working to help those with whom he comes in contact and right wrongs across the universe.
Doctor Who first aired in 1963. The program has received recognition from critics and the public as being one of the finest British television series ever produced and is shown around the globe. This highly collectible set features coins struck from one half ounce of 999 Fine Silver, presented in a Doctor’s fob watch.
This coin set has been developed in collaboration between BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand and New Zealand Mint.
Design
Reverse Design:
Each coin features a high quality colour reproduction of the Doctor. Behind him is a likeness of his nemesis engraved in 3-dimensional relief. This is surrounded by a finely engraved border design inspired by technology and time travel.
Obverse Design:
Each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Packaging
This Limited Edition Doctor Who 1/2 oz Silver Coin Set is presented in a quintessential, silver-coloured fob watch case. The case displays the entire 11 Doctor coin set, with a placeholder included for the 12th Doctor coin, planned for release in 2014. A Certificate of Authenticity sits inside the outer packaging case.
