Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted in 1987 and ran for 178 episodes over seven seasons until 1994, making it the longest running Star Trek series to date. The series followed the 24th century adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew on board the latest incarnation of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 3,000 of the Star Trek: The Next Generation – 30th Anniversary 2017 1oz Silver Proof Coin.
DESIGN
The coin’s reverse features the Star Trek: The Next Generation 30th Anniversary logo and Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the foreground with Locutus of Borg, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D and the Borg Cube in the background. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality.
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2017 year-date.
PRESENTATION
The coin is presented in a special edition Star Trek themed display case which lights up in green light when the lid is opened. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
