DESIGN
This 500-Dollar coin is 99.99% pure silver with a diameter of 180 millimetres and a nominal metal weight of 5,000 grams. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation, the reverse design by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn features a collage of iconic Canadian images that represent the nation from east to west and to the north. The stirring collage captures Canada’s spirit and character in 2017. These quintessentially Canadian images come together seamlessly to provide a one-of-a- kind, cross-country journey that speaks of the essence and uniqueness of Canada, our beloved “home and native land.” The reverse is also engraved with the words “CANADA” and “150 YEARS/ANS” The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the coin’s date, weight, purity and denomination.
