With superbly observed portrayals of the iconic animal, the renowned Australian Kangaroo series offers pieces featuring ‘reverse gilding’, which switches the selective application of surface gold from a coin’s central motif to the background design details.
The coin portrays a kangaroo lying on the ground, a restful position that helps it conserve energy during the hottest part of the day. The background and other artistic elements, including representations of a grass tree, are gilded in 24-carat gold. Also within the gilded area is inscription ‘KANGAROO’ and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, the design includes the coin’s weight, purity, 2025 year-date.
