A real hit on its debut back in 2017, Gods: Ares from Numiartis was arguably the coin that kicked off the frenzy of two-ounce, Mint of Poland struck, ancient mythology coins that permeated the market for several years after. Arguably a genre with one of the highest standards of design in the industry, we’ve seen a plethora of phenomenal issues, not least of which has been the continuing ‘Gods’ series from Numiartis themselves.
To celebrate five issues, the producer has gone back to its original magnum opus and ramped it up in size. Considerably. What you’re looking at here is a very limited run of just 99 pieces, a new one-kilogram variant of the original. This was always a superb design, you can see why it was so impactful, but it looks like it was made for this size, with the detail ramping up effortlessly. Some coins struggle with the transition, as what looks like a packed small coin often appears sparse at these bigger diameters. Obviously not the case here.
