ALIEN 40TH ANNIVERSARY – 2019 35 Grams Pure Silver Foil – Perth Mint
Conveying an eerie sense of foreboding, the poster for the 1979 hit movie Alien gave viewers a spine-tingling taste of the horror to come. Designed by Philip Gips and Steve Frankfurt, the poster depicts a giant mottled egg below the film’s title. A V-shaped crack at the egg’s base spills a sickly yellow-green light. The oval pod floats in darkness above a latticed grille and the movie’s ominous tagline: In space no one can hear you scream. An image that spoke instantly of unimaginable terror, it was the perfect representation of the horror and mystery the film would bring generations of moviegoers.
DESIGN
Crafted from 35g of 99.9% silver, the foil fuses colour and engraving to portray the now-iconic movie poster. A coloured replica of the original poster image is depicted above the inscription ‘40TH ANNIVERSARY’ and a stylised etching.
The obverse of the foil features a patterned engraving of The Perth Mint’s logo.
PRESENTATION
The foil is accompanied by a Perspex display case with stylish stainless steel fixings and a frameless design. Easily mounted as a wall hanging, the poster holder is provided with two sleek attachable legs that screw on to the frame for upright display. The foil is shipped within a prestigious branded black box.
