World’s First Ultra-High Relief Maple Leafs
The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is known around the world for its gorgeous Silver and Silver Maple Leafs. Since their debut in 1979, these popular collector coins have been released every year with the same beautiful design of a sugar maple leaf crafted by the RCM’s then-Chief Engraver, Walter Ott. Since that time, the design has remained unchanged—unchanged that is, until now! That person was Susan Taylor, the RCM’s former Senior Engraver. Taylor worked at The Mint from 1981 until her retirement in 2017 and won the American Medal of the Year Award in 2016.
