2021 Silver Coins Celebrate The Centennial Of The First Peace Dollar & Last Morgan Dollar
The Morgan Silver Dollar is America’s most popular and heavily collected vintage coin, case closed. The Peace Silver Dollar is one of America’s most popular vintage coins and the last silver dollar series struck for circulation entirely in silver. The last Morgan Dollar was struck in 1921 and the first Peace Dollar was struck that very same year. Now, 100 years later, the United States Mint is paying tribute this milestone in coin history by issuing 100th Anniversary centennial coins that honor both coins. To pull this off, The Mint This resurrected the original designs and, using its modern technology, has released new Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars that are bigger and bolder than ever!
- 2021 MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR: Featuring the same designs created by then-Assistant Mint Engraver George T. Morgan, the 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar differs from its vintage ancestors only in that instead of being struck in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver, it has been minted in .858 troy ounces of highly pure 99.9% silver. The rest is all still there — the same profile of Lady Liberty, a cap, flora, and a crown incused with the word “LIBERTY” adorn her head, while 13 stars, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the 2021 date are engraved around the rim of the coin. The familiar reverse returns as well showing an eagle with outstretched wings clasping arrows and an olive branch, accompanied by a wreath. The same inscriptions— “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “ONE DOLLAR” are there to encircle the eagle.
- 2021 PEACE SILVER DOLLAR: The same is true of the Peace Silver Dollar. Featuring the same designs created by Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar differs from its vintage ancestors only in that instead of being struck in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver, it has been minted in .858 troy ounces of highly pure 99.9% silver. The rest is all still there — the same profile of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays modeled after the design of the Statue of Liberty. The model for Lady Liberty was 23-year-old Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, the young sculptor’s wife. The familiar reverse returns as well showing an eagle at rest holding an olive branch above the inscription “PEACE.”
Awesome 2021 Morgan & Peace Dollar Two-Piece Set
In its effort to do this centennial milestone justice, the U.S. Mint issued not one, but FIVE different 2021 Morgan Silver Dollars. The Philadelphia Mint struck three of the Morgans, one with no mint mark, one with a “CC” privy mark, and one with an “O” privy mark; the San Francisco Mint (“S” mint mark) and the Denver Mint (“D” mint mark) struck the other two Morgans. This was done so that that every mint that struck the Morgan Silver Dollar was represented in this centennial release. The Philadelphia Mint struck the Peace Dollar and no mint mark appears on it.
