The Silver Libertad series has been annually issued since 1982. The coin is produced by the oldest Mint in the Americas, the Casa de Moneda de Mexico (Mint of Mexico), which was founded in 1535. Similar to the South African Gold Krugerrand series, the Libertad is non-denominational, with its value based on precious metal content and rarity.
Obverse: The current generation of the Mexican Coat of Arms, featuring a Golden Eagle with a rattlesnake ensnared in its beak, is located on the obverse, surrounded by a graphic evolution of ten variations of the Arms used throughout Mexico’s history. Inscribed “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” (United Mexican States).
Reverse: A beautifully detailed interpretation of the Winged Victory statue upon the Mexican Independence Victory Column located in Mexico City is depicted on the reverse. In the background, the distinctive peaks of Popocat?petl and Iztacc?huatl, two landmark volcanoes of Mexico, rise from the Mexican landscape. Inscriptions include “1 ONZA PLATA PURA 2020 LEY .999” and the Mint mark “Mo.”
This 2020-Mo Mexican 1 oz. Silver Libertad Onza coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review. Featuring a flawless strike and pristine surfaces, the coin was awarded the NGC’s highest grade of Mint State 70. The bullion coin is encapsulated in a NGC holder accompanied by a colorful Mexico themed certification label.
