2015 $10 1/2 oz Fine Silver Coloured Coin – Colourful Songbirds of Canada: Baltimore Oriole
Thanks to its striking black and fiery orange colouring, the Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) is often spotted high in the trees during Canada’s summer months, from Alberta eastward through the southern portions of Eastern Canada. In celebration of both Canada’s natural beauty and its colourful songbird species, the Baltimore Oriole is forever immortalised in this fine silver coin.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The fourth coin in the ongoing series titled Colourful Songbirds of Canada, which showcases the beauty of some of Canada’s most unique songbird species.
This finely detailed depiction of the Baltimore Oriole offers a close view of the songbird’s famous features.
The engraved oriole is further enhanced with the application of selective colouring, which recreates its vibrant colours in the wild.
A thoughtful gift for bird-watchers, art appreciators and anyone who admires the timeless beauty of the wildlife.
The reverse image by Canadian artist Hélène Girard offers a side profile view of a Baltimore Oriole rendered with selective colouring. The songbird’s solid-black colour carries from its head through to its wings where it mixes with bold white markings, then down to its orange-tipped tail. But it is the bird’s blazing orange underparts that catch the viewer’s eye, betraying its presence amid the engraved foliage of a wild plum tree.
