This breathtaking black coin is the newest issue of the Golden Enigma Edition and features two key symbols of the Mexican people: the Angel of Independence and the Mexican volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The Libertad is a Mexican coin that was first issued in 1981 in .999 fine gold and then in silver in 1982. Struck from 1 oz silver .999 BU, the coin is a unique combination of black and gold: it’s plated with black ruthenium and 24K gold! The worldwide mintage is limited to 5 000 pieces.
The obverse of the Silver Libertad coin features the Mexican National Seal with an eagle atop a cactus, clutching a serpent in its beak. Surrounding the eagle are a wreath and the official name of Mexico in Spanish: “Estados Unidos Mexicanos.” Unlike most gold and silver coinage in the world, does not show a face value; it shows only a weight.
To achieve the unusual black surface of the coin, it was coated with silver-gray ruthenium, one of the platinum metals that looks like platinum but is rarer. The reverse features the Winged Victory angel, a historic monument for the Mexican people and thesymbol of Mexico City. The Mexican volcanoes pictured in the background of the reverse memorialize the legend of the two lovers from whom they were named. Housed in a black luxury box with a numbered CoA inside, the Golden Enigma 2015 – Libertad coin is a desirable collector’s item!
Enhancement was done by a private mint in Germany.
