The reverse image features an interpretation of a bathymetry map of Lake Michigan replicated by Royal Canadian Mint engravers and is highlighted with translucent blue enamel. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Lake Michigan is sunk into the face of the coin, with the varying depths highlighted in relief and multiple frosting techniques, and then filled with vibrant translucent blue enamel. This unique approach to showcasing the lake highlights the depths that typically remain hidden from view.
The lake shape and depths are based on bathymetric data from the Canadian Hydrographic Service.
