Based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name, Thor is the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability of flight and weather manipulation, amongst his other superhuman attributes. Debuting during the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber and penciller Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug. 1962).
