The Tudor Dragon, also known as the Red Dragon of Wales (Y Ddraig Goch), has its roots in Welsh mythology and legend. It was adopted by the Tudor dynasty as a symbol of their Welsh heritage and claim to the English throne. The Royal Mint’s Tudor Beasts Series now features the Tudor Dragon as its sixth design in the collection. Right now, 2024 2 oz British Silver Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 2024 2 oz British Silver Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coins comes to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition from the mint. Coins in this weight are offered individually in plastic flips, by multiples of 10 coins in protective tubes, or by multiples of 200 coins in a box. The box contains a total of 20 individual tubes.
The Tudor Dragon came to the Royal Arms through the monarchs of the Tudor Dynasty. The House of Tudor originated in Wales. The dynasty’s founder, Owen Tudor, was a Welsh courtier who secretly married Catherine of Valois, the widow of King Henry V of England. This marriage connected the Tudor lineage to the English royal family.
King Charles III features on the obverse of 2024 British Silver Tudor Beast The Tudor Dragon Coins. His Majesty debuted in this series back in mid-2023 and this left-profile bust was created by Martin Jennings. Charles III is depicted without a crown on his head, creating a contrast between the crowned right-profile portraits of his predecessor and his own effigies.
The Tudor Dragon is engraved on the reverse of 2024 2 oz Silver Tudor Dragon Coins. This design was created by David Lawrence and captures the historic Red Dragon of Wales in this design from the Tudor Era. The Dragon is shown with a shield that depicts the Beaufort Portcullis badge.
