From New Zealand Mint featuring the revered Scrooge McDuck.
The first appearance of Scrooge McDuck came in issue #178 of Dells Four Color Comics. The issuewas titled CHRISTMAS ON BEAR MOUNTAIN and featured Donald Duck. Scrooge was introduced as the maternal uncle of Donald and was portrayed as fabulously wealthy. Behind that wealth though, Scrooge was a crotchety old Scot who was said to be a thrifty saver.
Carl Banks was the man behind the design and concept of Scrooge McDuck. In fitting with his grumpy Scottish character and vast wealth, Scrooge McDuck was named after Ebenezer Scrooge from the 1843 novel A CHRISTMAS CAROL. How fitting it was for Scrooge McDuck to make his debut at little more than a century after his namesake!
On the reverse of the 2018 1 oz Niue Disney Scrooge McDuck Silver Coin is a design reflecting a softer, more recent depiction of Scrooge McDuck in various cartoon series. He is featured in hits iconic top hat with glasses and robe as he boasts a giant bag of money held in his left hand. The background field has a sunburst design element to it and the weight, purity, and metal content are engraved along with a Disney copyright.
The obverse of the Niue Disney Scrooge McDuck Silver Coins features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation portrait of Her Majesty designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for original use on Royal Mint coins in Britain.
Single coins come in plastic sleeve, and rolls of 25 comes sealed in a tube from the mint.
