Never before has the Royal Canadian Mint produced a coin with an incused strike. With this new edition of the Silver Maple Leaf, RCM has produced a coin with the incuse strike on both sides. The definition of incuse is having the image struck/recessed into a coin as opposed to the standard raised relief. The now classic Walter Ott-designed maple leaf image is displayed on the reverse and the image of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait is portrayed on the obverse.
Few mints have attempted a sunken design. The unique and unusual format makes them more challenging to strike and, thus, highly unusual in the marketpla
This particular coin has been further enhanced – it’s a beautiful new black coin issue features a burning maple leaf in gold with all filigree details. The coin is completely plated with Ruthenium and partly with pure gold. The precious metal Ruthenium is a member of the Platinum Group and worldwide very rare. All this together with the luxury box and the noble certificate makes a perfect present and a worldwide searched collector’s piece.
The coin’s reverse depicts a burning maple leaf gilded in gold. On top the inscription “Canada”, the fineness of the Silver is present on both sides, left and right. On the bottom of the coin the inscription “Fine Silver 1 oz Argent Pur”. The coin is completely plated with Ruthenium and partly with pure gold. On the coin’s obverse the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the issue date.
Enhancement was done by a private mint in Germany.
