The fourth issue of the 6 coin Series ‘Polar Lights’ is dedicated to the Banff National Park. Canada’s oldest national park was founded in 1885 and covers an area of 6,641 km². The Banff National Park is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage since 1984. The motive of the silver coin depicts polar lights in spectacular shades of green as well as two howling wolves. The northern lights, scientifically called aurora borealis, are created in polar regions by the impact of energetic particles from the terrestrial magnetosphere on the atmosphere. Due to the very low light pollution, the Banff National Park is well known for it’s stunning view of the polar lights. The limited silver coin is delivered in a capsule including a product card.
