This amazing series features nine depictions of angels created in various times.
“Angel Playing the Lute”, a beautiful fresco decorating the vault of the Church of the Twelve Holy Apostles in Rome, is a work created by Melozzo da Forli around 1480. During the renovation of the church, it was removed from the vault of the chapel along with other frescos and moved to the Quirinal Palace in 1711, from where it eventually was taken to the Vatican Museum. Few works of Melozzo da Forli have survived to the present day, and none of his great decorative designs have survived the test of time intact. Melozzo was one of the greatest frescoists of the 15th century and to this day he has been known for his skillful use of the illusionistic perspective.
