This year’s issue of the proof silver Britannia from the Royal Mint features an all new, brilliant design! Engraved on the reverse is an image of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. The artist has also added various nautical elements, such as a sea on the background and a ship on the horizon. These wonderful features are to commemorate Britain’s history as a maritime nation.
Britain’s Royal Navy used to rule the seas, patrolling, protecting, and exploring their vast empire. As well, they boasted fleets of merchants and fishermen who were the source of the Nations great wealth. British explorer’s explored much of the world, including such famous men as Henry Hudson, Sir Francis Drake, and Captain James Cook. Because of this exploration, these new lands were able to be colonized, and eventually form the great nations we know today.
This 2015 proof silver coin is composed of 5 troy oz of .999 fine silver, struck at the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom. We submitted our coins for grading at NGC, and these have returned back graded as PF-70! As well, this coin has been authorized as legal tender by the government of the United Kingdom, and bears a denomination of £10.

The design on the reverse of this proof struck coin can clearly be seen for all of its beauty and detail. Britannia is engraved on this reverse, yet unique from the traditional image, is shown as a close-up from the side. In her left hand she holds her shield embossed with the Union Jack, and with her right she rests her trident over her shoulder. The sea is seen in the background of this coin, and an extremely detailed image of a masted ship at full sail is seen on the horizon. Around the design is inscribed the words “5oz FINE SILVER 999 2015.” This masterpiece was created specifically for this 2015 proof silver Britannia coin by artist and sculptor Antony Dufort.
Flip the coin around, and a highly intricate effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II can be seen on the obverse. This is a portrait by Jody Clark, a British engraver employed by the Royal Mint. Inscribed around the design are the words “10 POUNDS,” “Elizabeth II,” “D.G. Reg,” “F.D.,” and the initials of the artist, “J.C.”
